Powdered Energy Drinks

This powder’s made for mixing and drinking

If you’re looking for a quick pick-me-up in a can or bottle, a pre-made energy drink may be able to do the trick. However, since these drinks are expensive, it’s no surprise that they also come in ready-to-mix powder versions as well.

Instant energy drink mixes are relatively new, but they’re cheaper and just as effective according to energy drink enthusiasts. Like pre-made energy drinks, powder mixes are becoming valuable to overworked, tired people who don’t have time to rest and re-energize their bodies. Anyone who relies on a regular supply of energy juice will attest to how expensive pre-packaged cans and bottles are (approximately $3 each) and how time consuming making your own energy drinks is. Instead athletes, students, long distance drivers, office workers and partiers who need stimulus on a regular basis are turning to energy powders.

Powdered energy drinks are quick to mix. All you need is an empty plastic bottle or jug and some water or milk. The powders contain all the good stuff – typical ingredients such as caffeine, taurine, guarana and other substances that are designed to give you more energy. If you feel like being creative, you can add a few scoops and some milk to a blender. Add fresh fruit, yogurt or fruit juice for an energy shake.

Although energy drink mixes are designed to serve the same function as pre-made cans and bottles, there are some differences. Most pre-made drinks are carbonated, but since the powders are stored at home they aren’t carbonated.

There are a lot of different-flavored mixes on the market and some fruit-flavored brands such as Energy Fizz are sold in bulk plastic containers (for about $30 online) or in separate test-tube-shaped containers. Overall, the powder is easy to store and a lot cheaper to buy in a bulk container than pre-made cans and bottles.

Since energy drink powders aren’t carbonated, many argue that they’re better for you. In fact, many of the effervescent powders contain essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids that mix with water, making them similar to enhanced waters. In many cases these can actually help you get many of the nutrients your diet is currently lacking. Also, because they’re mixed with spring water instead of carbonated water they promote hydration.

Athletes can also buy powdered mixes that are a lot more like sports drinks. These don’t contain any caffeine and only trace amounts of sugar. Overall, the powdered mixes seem to contain fewer calories than most canned or bottled energy drinks.
